
Kelly Clarkson, in full Kelly Brianne Clarkson, (born April 24, 1982, Fort Worth, Texas, U.S.), American artist, singer, and television personality who came to prominence as a pop-rock superstar after being crowned the most popular TV talent contest American Idol in 2002. Clarkson was born living in Burleson, Texas, a suburb within Fort Worth, where her singing talent was initially recognized by the school's teacher of choir when she was a seventh-grader. Clarkson quit high school in order to go into Los Angeles where she failed to succeed in the world of entertainment. After returning home in Texas in 2002, the singer was a contestant for the American Idol, a show broadcast by the Fox Broadcasting Co. American Idol. This singing competition allowed viewers to choose their top performer. Clarkson's charismatic voice, enthusiasm and humor attracted viewers. Clarkson's prize was $1 million and included a recording contract with RCA.
