
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American performer and actress who performed for over 40 years. London was a torch performer well-known for her soft, smooth vocals. She recorded over 30 albums of pop and jazz standards from 1955 to 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry Me a River", which she recorded, was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to her music-related recognition, London was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1974 in her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her career as an actress. London's 35 year acting career began with film in 1944. It included parts as the female lead role in a variety of westerns. In the late 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. The final album of her studio was released in the year 1969. She continued her success as the female character in the role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) where she was portrayed by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
