He has also played1 Charles Augustus Magnussen in the third season of Sherlock and the Russian president Viktor Petrov in the American House of Cards on Netflix, and Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels. In 2011, he won the Reumert Prize of Honour At the age of 27 He enrolled in the National Theatre School of Denmark and graduated in 1995. He also appeared in The Killing's drama series. After that, he played in Borgen III and Those Who Kill both of which were critically acclaimed Danish dramas. He also had a major role in an episode of BBC drama Sherlock where he played blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American TV show House of Cards he played the president of Russia. In 2018, he was awarded an International Emmy Award for his part in the main character of the Danish television drama Herrensveje. The show aired in the UK as Ride Upon the Storm in 2019.
